Cape Shiriyazaki is located in the easternmost of Shimokita peninsula.
There’s a old lighthouse that was built in 1878 at the tip of the peninsula.
The horses called Kandachime are grazed around the cape in summer season.
In winter(Jan-Mar), the horses are transferred to the ranch named Ataka near the cape.
you can see them all year round for free of charge .
Since they are very quiet, so you can see close at hand the horses.
These horses are the decendants of Nanbu horse, traditional Japanese horse.
But pure species of Nanbu horse are already extincted.
There’s a few buses from Mutsu city to the cape. It’s recommended you come here by your own vehicle.
