Korakukan was built in 1910 as a welfare facility for workers of Kosaka mine and the family.
The theater is the oldest one in Japan without restoration and relocation and is designated as important cultural properties of Japan.
The theater suspended its operation in 1970 due to decline of the popularity of the play.
but the theater reopened in 1986 and has been produced the play almost everyday except winter(Dec.- March).
